Welcome Address

Broughton High School has a strong tradition of providing a high quality of education for all its pupils, setting the highest expectations, recognising and rewarding pupil success. This helps pupils achieve their full potential, equipping them to participate fully in modern society. Our aim is to promote personal excellence in all aspects of work and through this raise attainment and achievement. We are committed to developing well-rounded individuals. Attainment is very important, gained through excellent teaching and learning but so is developing a full range of talents and attributes, to this end the school staff also provide a wide range of extra curricular activities. The achievements gained there are highly valued by the school, employers and the community. We therefore encourage the pupils to develop self discipline, self responsibility and to participate in the wider aspects of school life.

We aim to create a disciplined environment where effective teaching and learning can take place and pupils can enjoy learning. A key feature of the school is to involve pupils in decision making through pupil councils. All pupils should feel valued as individuals and have their views heard. Following a recent HMIe inspection it was noted that key strengths of the school were pastoral care, and the strong partnership with parents, the schoolboard, the PTA (Broughton Association) and the community. These partnerships are essential providing outstanding support for many aspects of school life.

The school incorporates The City of Edinburgh Music School which provides specialist music tuition for some of the country's most gifted musicians is located here and a specialist dance programme established in1998 continues its success and rapid growth within the school.
